Court hearing against Aljunied Town Council for alleged unlicensed trade fair starts

Worker’s Party controlled Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC) is in court today to answer to an alleged charge of holding an unlicensed trade fair on the 10th of January this year.

Section 35 of the Environmental Public Health Act states, “no person shall promote, organise or stage any temporary fair … without first obtaining a permit from the Director-General of Public Health”.

A contravene of the Act’s provisions could, where no penalty is expressly provided, be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 and, in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $10,000 and/or a jail term not exceeding three months.
