10 Running/Cycling Events you need to check out in 2015

Looking back on 2014 and realising that you didn’t meet your resolution on adopting an active lifestyle? Perhaps you’ve found your jeans suddenly two sizes too small. Or maybe you’re just one of the sporty types.
Whatever it is, have no fear! We have compiled 10 sporting events that you can check out (and prepare for) in 2015. We’ve even taken the liberty of sorting it all out in chronological order for you.

 

1. Mileage New Year Run

Feeling energetic from all the partying the night before? Kick off 2015 with a bang at the Mileage New Year Run! The event is a 10KM run at Punggol Park – Waterfront Promenade – and will be held on 1 January 2015, 7.30AM. Registration only costs $15 and 50% of the proceeds will be donated. All runners will receive an exclusive event’s t-shirt and race bib.

 

2. Run for Light

Perhaps running with a hangover after an intense round of late-night partying isn’t your thing. Or maybe you were just too late for the registration for the New Year Run.

Fret not! There’s another run just around 2 weeks after.

The “Run for Light” event is a 5KM fun run that will happen at night. Canine lovers will get to take part in various canine-centric activities and mingle with fellow dog lovers at 5PM, before the main event. The event, which starts at 6.30PM and aimed to raise awareness and appreciation for our visual sense, will provide a unique challenge as runners will be running in darkness for most of the part. Neon signs and special event t-shirts will the main guides for runners and you will even be taken through a specially darkened zone. End the night with sumptuous food and live entertainment by popular local bands at the finishing line!
All who register before 13 December 2014 will enjoy an early price of $58. All registration prices will be at $68 after that. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Guide Dogs Association of the Blind.

 

3. Metasprint: Aquathlon

Looking for some splashin’ good fun to go along with your run? Check out Metasprint’s Aquathlon which will be held on 8 February 2015 at Palawan Beach. A sporting event that is a marriage between swimming and running, it is perfect for those without a bike or new to multi-sports. This event will be held in the waters of Sentosa and is open to all people of all genders and walks of life, between the ages of 7 to 99.

4. Green Corridor Run

Feeling tired of living in an urban concrete jungle? Come get away with the Green Corridor Run. This is a 10.5KM run and runners will get to pass through, and enjoy, the various natural scenic landscapes of Singapore – starting from Keppel Road to Rifle Range Road.

This event, happening on 8 March 2015, will be broken down into 4 waves over an hour from 9AM. For those without transport, a shuttle bus will be running from the finish area to Buona Vista MRT between 7.30AM to 1PM.

5. Metasprint: Dualthon

Looking for a day out to connect with your family, friends and community? Check out Metasprint’s Dualthon which will be held on 15 March 2015 at F1 Paddock. Blaze a trail down the F1 track. This event is open to all people of all genders and walks of life, between the ages of 7 to 99.

6. Twilight Ultra Challenge 5th Edition

Feel a desire to challenge yourself and push yourself to the limit? Or want to take part in a team-bonding exercise?
Look no further! The Twilight Ultra Challenge is a running event, organised by the Running Guild, which starts at 7PM on 28 March 2015 and ends at 11AM on 29 March 2015. That’s a whopping total of 16 hours of physical activity!
The objective: As an individual or as a team, do as many 5KM/10KM laps as possible within a maximum of 16 hours. You are your own limit.
Normal registration ($90) will be till 31 December 2014 and late registration ($100) will be from 1 January 2015 to 31 January 2015. Both will include medical support, food, water, sports drink, recovery station, special needs bag deposit, personal bag deposit and food reception at 9AM on 29 March 2015.
Participants may collect their race bib at the event site, East Coast Park Casuarina Grove Area F, on 28 March 2015 from 5.30PM onwards. Remember to bring your own water bottle!

7. NTUC Income Run 350

The NTUC Income Run 350 will be held on 5 April 2014. This event is organised by Young NTUC, and is Southeast Asia’s premier eco-run in support of the global 350 movement. This movement aims to raise awareness to the need to lower atmospheric CO2 levels to 350 parts per million, which scientists believe is the level required for Earth’s sustainability.

First held in 2010 at Pulau Ubin, RUN 350 saw 1,000 runners coming forward to run for the cause. In 2011, aided by NTUC Income, RUN 350 grew more than 7 times to 7,200 runners. By 2014, the run had already grown in stature with more than 12,000 runners involved.

All runners will be entitled to a personalised race bib, an exclusive race entry pack, exclusive compressport running singlet and finisher medal.

8. Annual Cycle Singapore

Cycling enthusiasts, feeling neglected with all the running events being mentioned? Fear not! There are two major cycling events happening, one of which is the Annual Cycle Singapore. Details have not yet been released but we know for sure that it’ll be held from 10 April 2015 to 12 April 2015, so mark it down on your diaries!

 

9. Metasprint: Triathlon

Are you a sports maniac? An avid fan of multi-sports? Check out Metasprint’s Triathlon which will be held on 19 April 2015. Enjoy a day out of heart-pumping action racing down the comfortably flat and shaded paths of Changi Beach Park. This event is open to all people of all genders and walks of life, between the ages of 7 to 99.

10. OCBC Cycle

Speaking of major cycling events, OCBC, one of the major banks of Southeast Asia, will be helming this race. It will start and end at the new Singapore Sports Hub, and is currently set to be held from 29 August 2015 to 30 August 2015.
