My friend Louis told me recently that he hasn’t been able to find a job. Curious, I asked him how he has done his job search. His reply: “Look for jobs on online job portals lor…”
I was quite taken aback. So I recommended him to search for jobs by attending job fairs where prospective employers are on hand to access your job fit, which will help to expedite the job application process.
Yes, fortunately for us Singaporeans, there are organisations that help our people organise job fairs to match people to jobs.
One such organisation that I know of is the e2i (Employment and Employability Institute).
The e2i regularly organises fairs at their own premises at Jurong East and even at Community Centres across the island to bring the jobs to the masses.
Sometimes, it even organises job fairs based on industrial sectors, such as for the maritime industry, social and services industry and Food & Beverage Industry.
This have been well-received by members of the public who are looking for jobs and employers alike.
Other organisations who organise job fairs include schools, such as the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
It organised its first run of the job fair yesterday (27 January) and will be having another two more runs on 30 January and 3 February at its campus.
The job fair is expected to attract around 15,000 students.
More than 4,000 jobs from a total of 230 companies are up for grabs at the job fair. Even the university is doing its own recruitment! It will be looking to hire 13 career coaches across various industries to guide students in planning for their careers.
Minister of State for Trade and Industry Teo Ser Luck shared at the fair launch yesterday that while such career fairs provide opportunities, the challenge will come after the candidate has secured the job.
“How long will they stay in a job, whether they stay long enough to develop specialized skills to contribute to the company and subsequently, collectively to the economy,” said Mr Teo.
So for those who say that there are not enough help to look for jobs, here’s a way that you can a chance to find a job!
