A police officer was injured in the shooting that took place in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital on Saturday.
The gunmen, Muhammad Iskandar Sa’at, 23 was arrested on Friday on charges of motor theft but may now face the death penalty under the Arms Offences Act. The brazen man complained of chest pains and was taken to the hospital under guard and it was there that he took it upon himself to seize the gun of a police officer and fire away in an escape attempt.
According to reports, the man leapt at the chance when one of the police officers left the private room inaccessible to public. The remaining officer, Mohammad Sadli Razali then struggled with the gunmen after three shots had been fired, injuring his left thumb and right foot in the process. Two quick thinking paramedics burst in upon hearing the shots and pinned the gunmen down allowing for a quick capture.
Iskandar’s hearing ended today and will await a further hearing on the 29th of June.
