Despite suffering an injury, a deep gash between his toes; Singapore’s silat exponent Nur Alfian went on to claim the Gold medal at the 28th SEA Games in the Men’s Pencak Silat Tanding Class F final. The 18 year old from Ngee Ann Polytechnic proved his mettle and his fighting spirit by defeating World Champion Tran Dinh Nam from Vietnam whom he had lost to in the World Silat Championships early this year.
The Singaporean champion who clearly worked hard for his medal, burst into tears as the national anthem played unable to hold back the emotions from months of training, sacrifice and pride for his nation. Goes to show that even the toughest men can still be brought to tears.
His Gold medal was Singapore’s 80th at the games – Well done Nur Alfian.
