We’re into the second week of the New Year (2016). What have you been up to? What have the friends in your Social Media accounts shared and posted?
If the start of the new year hasn’t been good to you, perhaps some form of care and concern for others should bring some colour to life?
Here are some ways our politicians celebrated the new year with their own activities:
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong
PM Lee presented education and bursary awards to students at his constituency on Saturday (9 January).
“Work hard, do well and, next year, do even better. And when you graduate, you would be able to look after yourself and make a contribution back to society, and be able to help others just as others have helped you.”
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong
NTUC Secretary General Chan Chun Sing
While most Singaporeans were out partying on New Year’s eve, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Chan Chun Sing visited workers in 3 locations to not only learn about their operations but also to show support and appreciate the work that they do.
MP for Pasir-Ris Punggol GRC Sun Xueling
The newly-elected MP spent New Year’s Day with her fellow GRC parliamentary colleagues giving out Bursary awards to students of all races and religion, organised by the Fo Guang Shan, a Buddhist organisation. Check out her Mandarin speech! Power!
MP for Marine Parade GRC Seah Kian Peng
What better way to spend New Year’s Day than to share the love and care for neighbours and residents through food. The veteran MP attended his first community event for 2016 by bringing them together to bond.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan
Wait…WHAT?! Dr Vivian, a grandfather?
Yes he is! At age 54. And what’s more, he has a 9 year old son.
“I am now in the unusual but happy situation of having a nine-year-old son and a grandson.”
Dr Vivian Balakrishnan
Well, if you think this doesn’t quite have the ‘care’ factor, Dr Vivian has a message for us:
“You only truly understand how much your parents love you when you hold your own child for the first time.”
