Former MP David Ong issues letters to his former ward
David Ong leaves with a personal touch.
It’s been a month or so since David Ong’s affair surfaced and took our little island by storm. All factions, from pro to “oppo” sat up and took notice.
After the dust settled a little, the former MP has issued a letter to the residents of his former ward.
Here’s what it says, as the image might be a little too small to read.
I made a serious error of judgement in my personal life, leading to my resignation as MP. I am deeply sorry for having let you down, and for not being able to serve you for the full term that you elected me for.
I had publicly apologised to Bukit Batok residents in my letter of resignation on 12 March, and in my subsequent apologies through the media. However, I have also wanted to write this personal letter to each of you.
Once again, my dear residents, I want to thank you for your friendship and for giving me the privilege of serving you as your MP over the last 6 years. I am grateful also to all those who have stood by me during the recent difficulties, especially my wife and family.
I wish you and your family the very best!
Serious error of judgement indeed, David Ong has walked away from Bukit Batok with his head hung low. It’s a saving grace that his family has stood by him through the ordeal despite his transgressions.
A by-election will be held in due course, but any date has yet to be announced. We look forward to watching the race for this open seat.
