Slogan
A Heart for the People
Promise
“The SDA promises to challenge the PAP-led government and press it to implement policies that will benefit Singaporeans. … When you elect us into parliament, we will be better able to:
- voice the concerns of the people in parliament
- challenge policies which will lead to greater suffering of the average Singaporean
- involve Singaporeans in policy decisions and champion policies that put them first” – Singapore Democratic Alliance
Key Theme
The PAP’s ruthless, selfish, “growth at all cost” mantra has resulted in suffering, and yet more suffering for average Singaporeans.
Priorities
- GST: reducing the GST to 3% for basic items such as food, common household products and other essential items., progressive GST taxation system of between 3% and 15% (where basic goods are taxed the least and luxury items are taxed the most)
- Public projects: a more stringent set of checks prior to the approval of expenditure on vain-glorious mega-projects like Changi Jewel, Ng Teng Fong Hospital, Founders’ Memorial
- Social inequality: an extra 1 to 5% of the government’s annual net returns on investments to be channelled towards helping youth from disadvantaged families
- CPF: senior citizens receive their CPF savings in full upon hitting the retirement age – currently at the age of 62, a component be reserved for MediSave and MediShield Life to fund emergency healthcare costs
- Jobs: stricter qualifying criteria regulations for local firms that seek to hire foreign working professionals, tightened quotas on the number that a company can hire, and that these foreign working professionals come from universities on a Singapore-accredited list, tighter labour audits on companies
