About FiveStarsAndAMoon
Singapore is often described through headlines, statistics and official statements.
We’re interested in everything that happens between them.
Since 2011, FiveStarsAndAMoon has been publishing sociopolitical content that explores Singapore’s politics, policies, culture and everyday life. We believe that understanding a country requires more than simply reporting what happened—it requires asking why it happened, how it affects ordinary people, and what it says about who we are.
Our work ranges from policy explainers and political analysis to social observations, historical features and cultural commentary. We aim to make complex issues accessible without oversimplifying them, and serious topics engaging without sacrificing substance.
We also believe that humour has an important place in public conversation. Satire, irony and light-hearted observations can reveal truths that conventional reporting sometimes misses. While not everything we publish is humorous, we are unafraid to use wit where it helps people think more deeply about an issue.
FiveStarsAndAMoon is editorially independent. Our views are our own, and we encourage readers to engage critically—even when they disagree with us. A healthy society depends on people who are curious, informed and willing to examine ideas from multiple perspectives.
Above all, we publish with one goal in mind: to help Singaporeans better understand Singapore.
Whether you’re here for politics, public policy, history, culture or simply a fresh way of looking at everyday life, we’re glad you’re here.
Welcome to FiveStarsAndAMoon.
